Clayhanger
Welcome to Clayhanger
Clayhanger is situated on the border between Somerset and Devon. As you approach the village, you will be able to spot the 14th century tower of the beautiful St Peter’s Church standing amongst the unspoilt scenery of its secluded valley.
The village also has its own Manor House, which was once owned by Thomas de Nutcombe in 1620 and then by Richard Nutcombe, sheriff of Devon from 1715-16. The memorials of the Nutcombe family, and several other well-known families, form part of the aisle of the church, and on Richard’s stone is inscribed, ‘Who in an age both in principles and practice corrupt, kept his faith and his morals untainted’.
