How do I find a walk and do I need to book?

There are three ways you can find a walk for your interest / ability / need:

  1. Look at the walking programme and click on the title of the walk, this will take you to an event page about that walk and instructions to book your place.
  2. From Visit Mid Devon’s homepage, click on What’s On and then select ‘Walking Festival’ in the drop down category bar. This will display all the guided walks available to you.

3. Find your own path? We have lots of walking routes for you to discover through our interactive walking map. Check out our helpful page to navigate our map?

You will need to book your place on a guided walk / tour.

Is it free to take part?

Most of the festival walks and events are free, some guided walks / activities are charging a small fee. You can easily see if there is a charge using the key within the programme.

Is the festival wheelchair friendly?

A number of the walks are suitable for wheelchairs ensuring everyone can experience a guided walk. Please see the programme and the icon will highlight which walks are wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

How do I select a walk which is right for me?

With such a variety of walks in length, difficulty and topics being covered, it can be difficult to decide which walk is right for you.

First of all – you know your body and what you can and can’t do – if you are in doubt health wise, always consult your doctor for advice.

Our handy key can help guide you through each walk. At a quick glance you can see the theme of the walk (nature, views, history, woodland, family friendly, wellbeing etc) and the difficulty level using the number of footprints against each walk.

One footprint indicates that the walk will be generally flat at a gentle pace. Two footprints will have some gradients and uneven terrain while three footprints indicates challenging climbs and uneven terrain. The distance of the walk is also highlighted with some walks under 3 miles, some under 6 miles and for the keen walker, there are a number of walks over 6 miles.

I have a question about a specific walk?

You can contact the walk lead to ask any questions about the walk. Use the booking details for that walk to make contact with the walk provider.
