Explore Our Vineyards
Mid Devon is home to some charming and unique vineyards.
One such gem is Wellhayes Vineyard, nestled in the heart of our countryside. Wellhayes is known for its picturesque views and award-winning wines. During English Wine Week, they are offering group tours and tastings that will give you a first-hand look at the winemaking process, from vine to bottle. Vineyard tours take place on Wednesdays and Sundays which you can book at www.wellhayesvineyard.co.uk
An up and coming vineyard in Mid Devon is Quoit at Cross Vineyard, providing unique wine tasting experiences on their intimate family run vineyard here in the heart of Mid Devon. Tim Hill, owner states:
‘Visitors will learn the processes involved in growing grapes in England, right through to how the wine is produced and all the challenges that are presented along the way with growing grapes in a cold climate.’
The vineyard produces a Rosé, a Bacchus/Chardonnay and a sparkling wine made from the Champagne varieties. The second half of the tour comprises of a guided tasting session where guests have the chance to sample the 3 wines.
Tim explains that ‘the tour is a unique chance to see a young vineyard in its early development stage, with vines currently growing at different stages. You will learn what it takes and – more importantly – how long it can take to establish a vineyard.’
The tours last 90 minutes, under 18s and well behaved dogs go free. Tours run every Friday at 5.30pm and Sunday at 11.30am (or other times by prior arrangement). For further information or to book a tour visit: www.quoitatcrossvineyard.com
Both vineyard tours are perfect for discovering new favourites and learning more about the distinct characteristics of our local wines. Be sure to try the crisp whites, robust reds, and delightful rosés that make Mid Devon’s wine selection so diverse and exciting.
