Mid Devon Finalists in Visit Devon Tourism Awards 2020

2020 was a really tough year for our tourism businesses so we’re thrilled to have some good news to share! We’re excited to see lots of Mid Devon Finalists in the Visit Devon Tourism Awards 2020.

Despite the circumstances there were lots of entries across the tourist sector from all corners of Devon this year. Our Mid Devon businesses were up against some tough competition to reach the finals! A total of 124 entries were received into the awards, with 66 selected as finalists who are now in suspense until the Awards day scheduled for 11th March, when they will learn whether they have won Gold, Silver, Bronze or a Special award. A further 13 businesses receive Commended status.

Deborah Heather of headline sponsors, Quality in Tourism said: “Resilience and adaptation are key to the success of every hospitality and tourism business in these current times; and, despite how difficult it has been across the board for the industry it’s amazing to see the commitment to quality and to continuous improvement we’ve seen from the applications to the awards.”

All of our Mid Devon businesses have shown amazing resilience over the last year and faced the challenges head on. They have adapted to continue providing excellence and faced the situation with positivity and determination. To have been recognised as a finalist or highly commended business in these awards is a great recognition of the hard work they have put in.

The current lockdown means that the usual celebration can’t happen but there will still be a chance for finalists to dress up and get excited for the online award ceremony in March.

Awards organizer Robin Barker of Services for Tourism comments: “The past 10 months have been a challenge for everyone – to survive let alone prosper. We have heard so many stories from entrants – of innovation, adaptation, and reinvention – and of course for many of desperation. Having considered abandoning the Awards for the year I’m so glad we persevered, adapting and changing along the way to reflect the ever-changing situation. The delight we’re witnessing amongst finalists on being told of their success makes it all so worthwhile!”

Our congratulations go to the commended businesses and we wish all of our Mid Devon finalists the best of luck at the virtual ceremony… we’ll see you there!
