Coldharbour Mill Factory & Museum

Coldharbour Mill is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK having been in continuous production since 1797. Originally owned by world-renowned textile producers Fox Brothers, the Mill took fleece from all over the world and transformed it into yarn, cloth and textiles. Today the rich heritage lives on as one of the finest working wool museums where visitors are not just able to relive the sights and sounds of the industrial revolution but also see crafts men and women making traditional textiles, beautiful knitting yarn and hand woven rugs.

Knightshayes

Knightshayes is a National Trust property near Tiverton. It offers one of the finest gardens in the South West with hidden glades and far-reaching views. The 'gothic revival' Knightshayes Court house is a rare example of the genius of William Burges, whose opulent designs are guaranteed to inspire extremes of opinion. The Victorian walled kitchen garden is one of the best in the country.
Visitors can enjoy pleasant walks around the extensive gardens, pastureland and woodlands as well as a visit to the house. Knightshayes hold events regularly throughout the year including nature trails and craft fairs.

Bampton Heritage & Visitor Centre

Please Note - Bampton Heritage and Visitor Centre will be closed from Tues 17th March 2020 until further notice. Trustees regret this decision but in light of government guidance it is the right step to take to protect the safety of their volunteers and visitors.

Located within St Michael's and All Angels Church, learn about Bampton's history presented through genuine local artefacts, colourful information boards, short video films and oral memories, booklets and guides.

Children's activities include dressing up costumes, quizzes, and an interactive video game.

Bampton Heritage and VIsitor Centre offers:
- Monthly guided town trails
- Interactive talks and presentations on a wide range of Bampton's heritage within the Centre or externally. These talks can focus on the railway, industrial and social history, key buildings and more.
- A free family town trail and quiz, available at our centre and online.
- Group visits - from a couple of hours to a whole day, by arrangement.
- Curriculum themed activities and talks for visiting school groups

Grand Western Canal Country Park

The Grand Western Canal Country Park and Local Nature Reserve meanders for 11¼ miles through beautiful countryside and quiet villages between Tiverton and the hamlet of Lowdwells (near the Somerset border).

The Canal is perhaps best known for its horse-drawn barge, Tivertonian. Visitors have been enjoying the tranquillity of its leisurely cruises for more than 40 years. Trips depart from the Canal Basin in Tiverton, where you will also find cafes, boat hire and a visitor centre.

The Canal’s fascinating heritage covers more than 200 years and many of its original structures and features still survive.  It is home to some special wildlife and is a perfect place to explore on foot, by bike, by wheelchair / mobility buggy, or to go boating, canoeing or fishing. Loved by visitors and locals, the canal provides a great day out at any time of the year.

Fursdon Historic House and Holiday Cottage

Fursdon is one of Devon’s oldest family homes where the Fursdon family has lived for more than 755 years. This fascinating house has evolved from a modest cob dwelling to the elegant Georgian manor house you see today and is surrounded by stunning country views.

Join a guided tour of the house and museum followed by a leisurely stroll around four acres of sensitively restored gardens and grounds. The peaceful Coach Hall tea-room serves delicious homemade cream teas and cake with views down the valley. Dogs are welcome in the gardens and tea-room and there is an outdoor play area for children.

A charming holiday cottage is also available, and a number of special open days and events run throughout the year. Recently Oliver and Emily Fursdon and their two children took over as the 24th generation of custodians at Fursdon. They warmly welcome visitors to their home.
