Light Switch-Ons in Mid Devon!
LET THERE BE LIGHT!
GET INTO THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT THIS WINTER SEASON WITH LIGHT SWITCH-ON EVENTS ACROSS MID DEVON!
Christmas is fast approaching and as we enter this Advent season, our town centres are being decorated and shop windows festooned with lights, sparkle and festive scenes.
2023 sees a suite of Christmas events returning for shoppers, crafters, foodies and families to enjoy. Kicking off the merriment are our Christmas Light Switch-On events across the District:
CULLOMPTON
Join in with the Christmas festivities in Cullompton on Saturday 25 November and Sunday 26 November. There is festive fun to be had all weekend!
The Night of Light on Sunday 26 November, will see the Christmas Light Switch-on by Santa Claus himself! But, if you wish to start the celebrations early, head to Cullompton on Saturday 25 November from 10am – 1pm, where you can take part in their fun-filled Christmas Celebration!
On Saturday, you can visit the Town Hall to weave a willow & fairy light star, visit Father Christmas at The Walronds, or attend the ‘Christmas Drop In’ at the Hayridge Café where you’ll find Christmas themed stories and books, as well as a family cinema afternoon. The Ace Majorettes will be providing entertainment with pop up performances across the High St, along with some performances from carol singers and Morris Dancers!
Head back on Sunday for the Switch-on in the Higher Bullring at 6pm, then follow the wonderful Crooked Tempo Samba Band into the Walronds Garden. There will also be an amazing Fire and Glow show, with Britain’s Got Talent finalist Merlin Cadogan and Higher Beings Circus! And, opportunities to pose for a photo with the ice king and queen stiltwalkers, and to explore the giant moon community lantern in the orchard.
TIVERTON
TIVERTON TOWN CENTRE REPRESENTS THE FIRE AND ICE CHRISTMAS LIGHT SWITCH ON, SATURDAY 25 NOVEMBER. BRING YOUR PAPER LANTERNS AND MAKE OUR STREETS MAGICAL!
As the theme is fire and ice, you are encouraged to bring your own paper lanterns decorated in this theme!
- Held on Phoenix Lane
- Live music from 1pm in conjunction with Withyfest
- Local theatre groups from 4pm
- Celebrations and switch on at 6pm
- Wonderful selection of food and drink stalls
There is also an Electric Nights Street Food Christmas Special, which will be running alongside the switch-on event. Head to the market from 5pm to enjoy food galore, bars, live music, entertainment and a Santa’s Grotto. A fantastic free-to-attend event for all the family!
CREDITON
Saturday 25 November
Saturday 25 November, with entertainment, music, food and drink in the Town Square starting from 2pm – 6pm to get everyone in the festive spirit.
BAMPTON
Bampton’s Big Light Switch On takes place on Friday 1st December in the Market Square and Village Hall. The Switch on itself takes place at 6.30pm but you’ll find an evening’s entertainment with craft stalls, live music and the opportunity to meet Santa!
There will also be carol singing, mulled wine and fair rides!
FREE PARKING
Mid Devon District Council is providing free parking in the three main towns’ long-stay car parks on the five Saturdays leading up to Christmas (25 November, 2, 9, 16 and 23 December):
- High Street (St Saviour’s Way), Crediton
- Station Road (Forge Way), Cullompton
- Multi-Storey (Phoenix Lane), Tiverton
