Get into the Christmas spirit this weekend with Light Switch-On events across Mid Devon!

Christmas is fast approaching and as we enter this Advent season, our town centres are being decorated and shop windows festooned with lights, sparkle and festive scenes.
2022 sees a suite of Christmas events returning for shoppers, crafters, foodies and families to enjoy. Kicking off the merriment are our Christmas Light Switch-On events across the District:

Crediton

Saturday 26 November

Saturday 26 November, with entertainment, music, food and drink in the Town Square starting from 2pm – 6pm to get everyone in the festive spirit.

Kick off the afternoon with a festive flag-making workshop being held at the town council offices from 1.30 pm.
Then head to the Town Square from 2pm where the entertainment includes:
Punch & Judy, Music from Lost & Found, Turning Tides, Haywards & Landscore School Choirs and a Lantern Parade.
Don’t miss the special visit from Father Christmas before the big light switch on at 5 pm! The festivities continue in the square until 6pm.

Additional Information:

  • All children are welcome to dress up and join in with the lantern parade.
  • The parade assembles at the top of Market Street at 4.30pm.
  • There will be lots of lovely food and drink stalls!
  • Make a festive star flag in the Crediton Town Council offices at 1.30pm
  • Crediton Congregational Church is offering free hot chocolate, so pop in for a cup on your way past, and have a peek at their Nativity Scene while you’re there.

Cullompton

Join in with the Christmas festivities in Cullompton on Saturday 26 November and Sunday 27 November. There is festive fun to be had all weekend!

The Light Switch on itself takes place on Sunday 27 November but get the celebrations started on Saturday from 9.30 – 1pm.  Head to Santa’s Grotto in the Town Hall and take part in Children’s Christmas crafts at The Hayridge. You’ll find more crafts at The Walronds where you can make a fairy light willow star wand and browse the craft fair.  Cullompton Farmers’ Market is also taking place so a chance to stock up on local produce and maybe even some Christmas gifts.  The Ukes of Wellington will be providing entertainment with pop up performances across the High St.

Head back on Sunday for the Switch-on in the Higher Bullring by the War Memorial at 6pm.  There will be Hot Chocolate, Carols and a Festive Light Garden to enjoy from 5pm at St Andrew’s Church, Cullompton.  Bring your lantern or fairy light star to join the parade; meet at 5.30 at St Andrews and stick around after the switch-on for music and entertainment.

Tiverton

Tiverton’s light switch-on event takes place on Saturday 26 November. The evening’s entertainment kicks off with a parade of beautiful lanterns created by local schools and community groups from 5.30pm with the Light Switch-on happening at 6pm.  Please note: due to the weather forecast the lantern parade has been cancelled but the rest of the event is still taking place.

Head to the Tiverton Pannier Market between 5:30pm and 9:00pm for a full evening of festive fun at their Winter Edition of Electric Nights.  You’ll find lots of local and international street food stalls, 3 bars, local artists, crafts and gifts and live music all evening.  Don’t miss Santa’s Grotto for 5pm to 8pm and a Christmassy craft session from 5pm.

Bampton

Bampton’s Big Light Switch On takes place on Friday 2nd December. The Switch on itself takes place at 6.30pm but you’ll find an evening’s entertainment with late-night shopping, carols under the tree and a festive market in the Riverside Hall.

  • Don’t miss a visit from Santa in Riverside Hall
  • Lots of stalls, including plenty of yummy food and drink!
  • Grand Prize Draw
  • Bampton Heritage Centre will also be at Riverside Hall with their own stall selling cards and goodies, perfect for Christmas presents.

Mid Devon District Council is providing free parking in the three main towns’ long-stay car parks on the four Saturdays leading up to Christmas (26 November, 3, 10 and 17 December):

  • High Street (St Saviour’s Way), Crediton
  • Station Road (Forge Way), Cullompton
  • Multi-Storey (Phoenix Lane), Tiverton
