How to Navigate our Walking Map
Before you join us for an unforgettable celebration of nature, community, and the joy of walking at the Mid Devon Walking Festival – check out our interactive Walking Map!
To make sure you get the best out of all our wonderful walks, we have designed an interactive map – here, you can choose the length of your walk, the difficulty level, and even see what type of amenities and facilities are dotted along the way! This makes it super easy for you to be able to choose your preferred walk.
Whether you want to stop off on the way for a spot of lunch in one of our eateries (or picnic spots!), or take a browse in some of our independent retailers, we have you covered.
To start with, our map will look like this:
You can navigate the right-hand section to show you which route suits your preference. Whether you seek a challenging trek or a gentle amble, our festival has a route tailored to your preferences. From short, medium or long, our diverse program ensures you experience the magic of Mid Devon at every turn.
As you can see in the image below, once a ‘short 0-3’ mile walk has been selected from the right hand section, our map will show you a range of our short walks. You can click through each of them and choose one in a location you’d prefer! Once you select a walk you fancy, you can click to ‘read more’ about the route.
If you select from the colourful tabs at the bottom of the map, a selection of pin points will show up on the map. Each tab will show you exactly where to find what you are looking for. You can select where you’d like to eat or drink, or you can even select somewhere you’d like to stay during your visit.
As you can see below, once the ‘Food & Drink’ tab has been selected, a number of pins will show you where you can stop of for a refreshment along your walk!
When choosing the difficulty level from the right-hand side section, the levels go from easy to technical:
Easy – This is low level walking with few or no gradients. This may be along a road or tarmacked path. Suitable for all levels of walkers, pushchairs and wheelchair users. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn.
Moderate – For reasonably fit walkers with no mobility or specific health problems. Some gradients or uneven terrain. May include unsurfaced rural paths through woodlands or fields and may have a style. The route maybe less obviously marked in some sections. Walking boots and warm waterproof clothing are recommended.
Challenging – Good level of fitness and walking experience, some steep climbs and open country with less well marked sections of the route. Unsurfaced rural paths with rough and uneven terrain. Suitable for more experienced and prepared walkers. May require a compass and map. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.
Technical – For very experienced and fit walkers only, will need to use compass and map, could have steep inclines and uneven terrain, may need additional technical skills eg scrambling, crampons etc. You must plan your walk beforehand.
Again, once the difficulty level has been selected, your choices will be shown on the map by the pins. You can tailor your route exactly to your preference!
The Mid Devon Walking Festival is more than just a journey through nature; it’s a celebration of community spirit.
