Halloween Fun and Half Term Activities
How will you spend your October Half Term in Mid Devon?
Devon’s half term runs from 24th to 30th October and there are lots of family friendly events happening. Here are some ideas of fun things to do in the region with your family.
See a Show:
Have a family outing to a local cinema. Tiverton’s Tivoli Cinema is showing Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile all week, as well as some special showings of the original 1993 Hocus Pocus film. The cinema has a good range of treats to enjoy with your film and, as a small local cinema, their prices are really reasonable. Check the website for full times and prices.
Check out ‘The Zoo That Comes to You’ at Crediton Arts Centre. A fun journey with animal puppets, live music and playful characters from Scarlet Oak Theatre.
Family Friendly Attractions:
Head to Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life for their Petrifying Potions event, running all week. Take part in a trail to complete a spell and make Halloween decorations at special craft sessions on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th October.
Don’t miss their Fright Night on Thursday 27th October for a chance to visit the decorated museum by torchlight and look for the museum ghosts.
Bampton Heritage and Visitor Centre will be attending Bampton Charter Fair where you’ll find their information stall. Then visit the centre in Bampton Church to discover the history of the Fair.
The fair itself is well worth a visit, lots of stalls, music and other entertainment to keep the family busy all day.
Bear Town wishes your little ones a Happy Halloween with their spooktacular event running from Thursday 29th October to Wednesday 2nd November. Take part in a Halloween hunt looking for bats, and get a Halloween treat. Aimed at ages 1-7.
Get muddy at the Bear Trail, award-winning family assault course near Cullompton , which is open daily from 22nd – 30th October.
Steam your way to Bickleigh’s Devon Railway Centre for their Halloween Special. Follow the pumpkin trail to find Halloween treasure.
Dare you take on Coldharbour Mill‘s Ghost Trail? Visit their Steam and Scream event on Sunday 30th October to meet the resident ghosts and search for lost pumpkins.
Embrace the gothic roots of Knightshayes with a special witches and wizards walk brought to you by Pocketwatch Theatre on Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd and Sunday 30th October. Also follow an autumn activity sheet and make an autumn crown throughout the week.
Hunt for pumpkins around the park and grounds at Killerton with a special holiday trail, while enjoying the autumnal colours.
Crafts, Workshops, Games and Trails:
Enjoy Halloween Crafts at Tiverton Library, on Thursday 25th October, making some spooky crafts to take home.
Grand Western Canal Country Park is hosting a bat box building workshop for their Wild Wednesday on 26th October. Booking is essential for this one.
Paint a Halloween or autumnal themed memento at Paint Pots of Devon. Booking is advised for half term at Crediton’s paint your own pottery studio.
Pop in to the shops on Angel Hill in Tiverton to have a go at their Halloween Games on Saturday 22nd and Saturday 29th October. ReLoaded TeeShirts, Bridge Troll and Avo Glass Design all have a different game to try for a chance to get either a Trick or a Treat!
Find the pumpkins hidden along Crediton High Street until Friday 4th November. Pick up your trail sheet from Paint Pots of Devon.
Head to Tiverton Pannier Market for a Halloween Pumpkin Hunt on Saturday 29th October, along with a Fancy Dress Competition and live entertainment, as well as all the usual stalls.
Soft Play:
Mid Devon has some great soft play venues for a great way to have a fun low cost day out that’s guaranteed to keep the kids entertained. All have food and drink available to keep you busy while the little ones play.
Choose from Planet Play in Crediton, Little Monsters at Monsters’ Mansion in Tiverton and Waie 2 Play in Zeal Monachorum near Crediton.
Pumpkin Picking:
Pick your Halloween pumpkins! Most of our pumpkin picking venues have fun photo ops, refreshments and extra activities to join in with to make it a fun filled family day out.
Pick at the Jolly Group in Silverton, Orway Porch Farm in Kentisbeare, Halberton Court Farm Shop, Thorne’s Farm Shop in Crediton.
