Discover our top picks of things to do this Half-Term

Many of our towns, attractions and eateries have fun, autumn plans this October. Some are great for young children, families and others have spooky entertainment just for the grown-ups. Here is a selection to enjoy:

Family Fun

  • Hallowe’en fun with themed family sessions at Bear Town, Tiverton Museum and National Trust Knightshayes.
  • FizzPop Science – a super fun science show is at Bickleigh Mill (31 Oct, 1 Nov, 2 Nov – booking essential)
  • Get crafty! Visit Tiverton Museum for Hallowe’en craft on 30 Oct. Pottery painting studios, Paints Pots (Crediton) and Happy Glaze Pottery (Tiverton) have spooky themed items to paint.  Paint Pots also have a Harry Potter workshop on 28 Oct, a bear workshop on 1 Nov and a Hallowe’en pottery painting party on 30 Oct (booking essential).
  • Get outdoors and shake off those cobwebs at Footgolf Devon (special offer for groups of more than 10 at weekends). Special price of £5 per person for 9 holes.
  • Autumn trails! National Trust Killerton have a pumpkin trail to follow this Half Term. Visit Crediton Town Centre and find the ceramic pumpkins in shop windows.

Autumn Food and Drink

We’re well into harvest season now and there are several tasty opportunities to enjoy the local produce:

  • Tasting Tours at Hanlons Brewery and Thunderflower Distillery taking place this month
  • Apple-picking and pressing at local orchards including Springwater Farm (12 Oct), Viveka Gardens (13 Oct). Visit National Trust Killerton this October and enjoy a range of apple activities including pressing and cider production or pick-your-own to take home.
  • Kids Sushi-making and sweet treats classes (30 Oct) and Hallowe’en baking (31 Oct) at Devon Cookery School
  • Take part in the ‘Apple and Honey Harvest’ at Quince Honey Farm (26 Oct – 3 Nov)

Grown-up Activities

  • Fright Night at the Museum (25 Oct) – dare you brave Tiverton Museum at night?!
  • Crafty Witch autumn wreath making at Wishes Devon (26 Oct)
  • Paint your own ceramic witch or pumpkin at Happy Glaze Pottery‘s ‘Paint and Prosecco’ nights (Friday evenings)
  • Theatrical entertainment with ‘An evening of Folk Songs and Stories’ at Crediton Museum (25 Oct) and ‘Ghost Stories: Tales of the Supernatural’ at The Oak Room (1 Nov)
  • Looking ahead: test your nerve with a ghost hunt at Coldharbour Mill (9 Nov)
