Killerton House, Garden and Park – Heritage Open Days
Enjoy Killerton’s glorious landscaped garden, extensive parkland, fine 18th-century house and unique fashion collection.
Killerton Estate was the home of the Acland family from the late seventeenth century until it was gifted to the National Trust in 1944. The ground floor of the Georgian house captures the feel of their family home in the 1920s and 1930s. Items from the National Trust’s largest collection of fashion and dress are displayed on the first floor.
This year’s exhibition, ‘Playing by the rules’ features children’s clothing from the C19th and C20th centuries. It has been co-curated with young people and and includes games and hands-on-activities for children and the young-at-heart. Killerton’s hillside garden is known for its exotic collection of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants and tender ornamentals. Marvel at the enormous leaves and mysteriously shaped seed pods of the Magnolia. Find the seeds of a giant redwood. Take shade under the majestic Luccombe Oaks. Discover the picturesque gems of the bear’s hut and the rock garden and enjoy views to a distant Dartmoor.
Want to stretch those legs? Enjoy wildflower meadows, views from volcanic outcrops, and the smells of Autumn woodland. Admire the architecture of Killerton’s Grade I listed Chapel and discover the earthworks of an iron-age hillfort.
Please note the mansion house closes at 4pm and last entry will be at 3.30pm
