Celebrate 50 Years of the Two Moors Way

29 May 2026 marks a very special milestone for one of Devon’s most-loved walking routes. The Two Moors Way – the legendary 102‑mile trail linking Ivybridge on the southern edge of Dartmoor to Lynmouth on the dramatic Exmoor coast – celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Since 1976, walkers from near and far have followed this beautifully varied route across open moorland, wooded valleys and peaceful farmland. In 2005, the trail was extended by linking it with the Erme–Plym Trail, creating the full 117‑mile Devon Coast to Coast, beginning at Wembury’s shoreline and finishing at Lynmouth’s spectacular cliffs.

To mark this golden anniversary, a series of special circular guided walks is being delivered by the Exeter & District Group of the Ramblers. Whether you’re a seasoned long‑distance hiker or a casual weekend walker, these events offer the perfect way to experience the magic of the Two Moors Way.

All walks are free, but pre‑booking is essential.

2026 Anniversary Walk Programme

March – June 2026

• Saturday 28 March – Lynmouth (Exmoor)
  Approx. 11 miles · Strenuous
• Saturday 11 April – Simonsbath (Exmoor)
  Approx. 9 miles · Moderate
• Saturday 25 April – Holne (Dartmoor)
  Approx. 12 miles · Strenuous
• Saturday 16 May – Withypool (Exmoor)
  Approx. 9 miles · Moderate

Golden Anniversary Day – Friday 29 May

Two moderate 7‑mile linear walks:

• Witheridge (north) or
• Whelmstone Cross (south) → Morchard Bishop

Celebrate in style with:

• 3:30pm anniversary tea at Morchard Bishop Memorial Hall (kindly provided by the WI)
• Guest speaker
• Photo exhibition
• Anniversary merchandise available from 2:30pm

Pre‑booked bus transport will run from Morchard Bishop to each walk’s start point. If arranging your own drop-off, please confirm when booking.

Photography Competition – Capture the Spirit of the Two Moors Way

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, walkers are invited to take part in a special photography competition. Share your favourite scenes from across the Two Moors Way, whether they’re taken in spring, summer, autumn or winter.

• Photo caption (location & season)

Winning photos will be displayed in the Memorial Hall during the anniversary celebrations.
