Coronation Events in Mid Devon

The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May 2023. To celebrate this special occasion, a series of exciting events and activities will take place across Mid Devon over the Bank Holiday weekend from Friday 5 May until Monday 8 May.

Tiverton Town Centre – Coronation Street Party

Tiverton is hosting a fun-filled family day to celebrate the Coronation on Saturday. From 10am – 4pm in the town centre you will find a variety of local food stalls serving tasty treats, face painting and creative activities from Unnamed Art, workshops and sessions from Happy Glaze Pottery, crown making from Creative Mojo Mid Devon & West Somerset, and interactive wildlife activities with Sustainable Tiverton. There will be live music and exciting circus activities, including the amazing Imaginarium. Tiverton Farmers’ Market – Coronation Special

There will also be a ‘Coronation Special’ at the Farmers’ Market, which will run alongside the Tiverton’s Street Party celebrations (above). The Market will run from 9am to 4pm and will feature around 50 stalls – all of which will highlight the best local food, drink, and producers across the area. Live music will be playing throughout the day and tasty street food will be readily available, as well as a visit from Owls R Us-Devon with their wonderful display of owls and birds of prey. And if that wasn’t enough, they are also hosting a Big Coronation Bake-off & Make-off and a fancy dress competition, with some great prizes on offer for those who win!

Cullompton Coronation Celebrations

If you are in Cullompton over the Coronation weekend, you can head to St Andrew’s Church from 10am to watch the Procession unfold live on the big screens. There will be refreshments on offer, crafts and fun activities for children, and a tree planting in the garden after the ceremony – and if you can, do bring some cake to share! And then on Sunday, you can bring your own picnic along to enjoy The Big Lunch in the gorgeous Walronds Garden to celebrate the Coronation event with the local community from 12pm – 2pm. They also have entertainment on offer throughout the day on Sunday from the Ukes of Wellington, Voice Worx and face painting by Emma’s Face and Body Art.

There is a Coronation Celebration at Bear Town on Monday 8 May for younger members of the family with fun dressing-up fun! (pre-booking required)

Crediton – Big Sunday Lunch

Crediton Town Council are delighted to have organised a Big Sunday Lunch on the 7th of May to celebrate the Coronation. Their town square and nearby streets will be filled with food and drink stalls, as well as live music and entertainment from local artists from 12 – 4pm. They will have picnic tables out so be sure to come along with either your own picnic or purchase some yummy bites from the food-stalls! On Monday they are hosting The Big Help Out for the Coronation, a volunteering initiative to help join the community together for a great cause – you can take part in some litter picking, help out with some weeding or volunteer with a voluntary organisation to show your support.

Willand Coronation Celebrations

The Coronation ceremony will also be aired live for the community from 10am at Willand Village Hall on Saturday, along with a history exhibition, refreshments, and even a draw to name the King and Queen of Willand – which are two beautiful hand-made dolls. On Sunday they are hosting another fun-filled day with a community bring-your-own picnic, a uniform parade, church service, choir singalong, activities and entertainment for children, and a live stream of the Kings Coronation event.

Sandford Coronation Events

Sandford Village have a weekend packed full of exciting events running from Friday to Monday. To begin the weekend of celebrations, you can watch the Otter Morris Dancers at the Lamb Inn on Friday evening. On Saturday, there will be a live broadcasting of the Coronation Procession for the community from 11am, also held at the Lamb Inn. On Sunday, you can head to the church at St Swithuns for a Coronation Church Service at 9:30am, which is followed by a planting of the Coronation tree and a glass of fizz at the Parish Hall. On Monday you have the chance to attend a Boundry Walk and Beating of the Bounds from 2pm – where you can take a walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery, participate in four rounds of a traditional beating of the bounds and share a loyal toast to the newly crowned King Charles III with some delicious Sandford Cider. There will also be a celebratory Coronation tea at Beacon Church to end the day.

Hockworthy Big Lunch Party

In the village of Hockworthy, there will be a Coronation Big Lunch Party on Sunday from 1pm at the Village Hall, open for all to attend! They hope everyone can come together and bring a sweet or savoury dish to share and celebrate the Coronation – and, of course share some lovely food and drink, play some fun games and listen to some music in the comfort of the Village Hall. If you are interested in joining the party, simply book online to secure a spot.

Hemyock Fun Day

There will be a series of special events taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend in Hemyock. On Saturday, you can bring your own afternoon tea (and a chair!) to enjoy the Coronation celebrations from 3pm at their community street party on Culmbridge Road. They will have a cake stall and are offering complimentary tea, coffee and squash. There will also be a prize for the attendee with the best crown! On Sunday, head to Longmead Field from 11pm for an open air church service and live entertainment, as well as a bring-your-own Big Lunch. To end the weekend of festivities, on Monday the 8th there will be a ‘Community Fun Day’ with local groups showcasing their skills and interests, a big Tug o’war, tennis and football games for all to try, and a fancy dress parade with prizes on offer for the best costumes! Refreshments will be available throughout the day and a Community Litter Pick will take place at Longmead to conclude the celebrations.
