August is National Fishing Month

Fancy trying angling? There’s a fishing frenzy in Mid Devon – this August, take part in National Fishing Month and find all the best places for fishing lakes and fishing breaks in the area:

National Fishing Month is a festival of fishing.  Designed to celebrate the social, wellbeing and environmental benefits of angling, the festival takes place each August.  Run in partnership by the Angling Trades Association, the Angling Trust, Canal & River Trust and Environment Agency, the organisers want more people having fun and relaxing in nature.

This event is a fantastic opportunity to have a go at fishing.  Suitable for all ages and with several sites offering wheelchair-friendly, family-friendly and dog-friendly options, anyone can have a go.  Mid Devon is blessed with a plethora of fisheries and angling clubs dotted across the District in stunning countryside landscapes.  Enjoy the tranquil environment, relax and spot an abundance of wildlife while you cast your line and wait for that first bite.

Have a look at our Fishing Lakes and Holidays page for a detailed map and list of all the fisheries in Mid Devon.  Have a go at Stillwater or River Fishing at one of our many holiday sites with onsite fishing.  Book day-tickets with the fisheries and tour different lakes and rivers across the District.  Where will you catch the biggest fish?

If you need a lesson or two beforehand, The Fox and Hound Country Hotel in Chawleigh has its own Fly Fishing School.  You can also find several angling coaches via the Angling Trust’s website: https://anglingtrust.net/nationalfishingmonth/

Remember to check the rules of the sites and ensure you have the correct licences and fishing gear before visiting. Take rubbish home with you and enjoy your stay in #MidDevon.
